Dan Horneman and Jesse Kraay are the two corny individuals behind the Edmonton Corn Maze. The two good friends were looking for something to do and thought that a corn maze would be a great adventure. Following the famous phrase, “if you build it they will come,” Jesse and Dan cut a maze out of a field of corn and people have been visiting and enjoying the maze ever since.
In Alberta, the first corn maze opened in Lacombe in the summer of 2000. It was co-owned by the parents of Jesse Kraay and is still operating in Central Alberta. Seeing the success of the Lacombe Corn Maze and looking for an exciting challenge, Jesse and Dan started planning to open a corn maze of their own in Edmonton in the spring of 2001.
Every year since 2001, the Edmonton Corn Maze has designed and operated a corn maze. They learn more each year and try to make the maze experience something that everyone who visits will remember and enjoy. They still get excited to start a new maze every year and love to hear the sound of people getting lost and having a great time in the maze.
The Edmonton Corn Maze is part of a franchise called “The MAiZE”. This company is the largest corn maze company in the world. “The MAiZE” helps with maze design, operation, marketing, and a lot of other unique aspects of running a corn maze. The Edmonton Corn Maze is then able to share ideas with other maze owners from all over the world. Check out www.cornfieldmaze.com to see some of the other mazes around North America.
